The first thing you will need is a place to host your website on; hosting is the server space your website is held on.
Think of it as the land you buy to build your house on. You will pay for this server space for as long as you need it, usually on a yearly basis (like property taxes).

Domain: $13-$15/Year
The address your visitors put into the address bar to get to your website. This is how your website (home) is found on the internet. Domain is renewed yearly.
Most Hosting providers allow you to purchase your domain at the same time you purchase hosting.
Wordpress: $0/Forever Free
WordPress is the “content management system” you build your website with if you don’t know how to build by code. This is similar to the foundation you build your home on.
I prefer WordPress because it is so customizable and able to be expanded, which means your website functionality can grow over time with your business and you’ll never have to leave the WordPress platform to do so.
What does functionality mean? You can take your website from a basic info site to an e-commerce site or blog site.
The reason I don’t like other platforms like SquareSpace, Wix, Shopify, and Showit is that these platforms don’t have all the options abailable to you. If you decided you want to add certain features to your website on one of those other platforms (like selling products, a blog, registration forms, member subscription services, etc.), you may have to completely scrap your existing website and move to…Wordpress. I’ve had many customers in this very predicament. Trust me. WordPress is THE platform of all platforms.
